R ecently the city of Boise approved a voluntary green building code in an effort to guide and highlight sustainable construction. This new code for both commercial and residential sets forward an opportunity for developers to take the lead in increasing efficiency in the building process.
Since its approval, the new code will become the standard for all citywide projects and voluntary for developers. Some of the first projects that will utilize the new code are a new Library at Bown Crossing and two new fire stations, located in Boise.
Developers who use the code will be incentivized by utilizing special assistance from the city such as payment of analysis and monetarily as well. Additionally each completed project special recognition in the form of a monument plaque. These type of development projects will be called “Green Pillar” projects, which will receive extended permit processing and participation on the City’s project management program.
